OKLAHOMA CITY – Congratulations to Stephanie Melton from Blanchard! She is the second of four winners in the News 9 Style My Summer Contest.
Melton was nominated by her daughter, Brittanie Phillips. She is a survivor of a car accident on March 23. The accident left her with serious injuries, including a large cut on her scalp that left a permanent bald spot on her head.
Her daughter believed that winning this contest will lift her spirit. She said she wanted to help her feel beautiful again.
And it didn't take long for us to see Stephanie's inner and outer beauty shinning through.
Our team and Melton's family members surprised her earlier this week. She has won a $500 shopping spree along with a makeover from Anthony David Salon.
Read the essay submitted by her daughter below:
My mother, Stephanie Melton, so deserves a makeover because of all that she has been through since this past March. She was in a car accident on March 23, 2011 where a semi-truck driver failed to yield and hit her SUV directly and flipped her car. She received many bruises and scrapes, but the worst injury she received was the very large cut on her scalp, leaving her a large bald spot on the top of her head. The plastic surgeon said she would need several painful surgeries to get the hair to grow back and even then the hair might not even grow back. He suggested hair extensions, which are very expensive and she has not been able to get them put in due to their cost. Her bald spot isn't that noticeable when she parts her hair a certain way, but it has still affected her self esteem. She is so deserving of this makeover, it would lift her spirits so much. She is ALWAYS giving back to her community of Bridge Creek by volunteering at her church, fundraising for the school, and so many other ways. She is well known for her volunteerism. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE choose my mom for this makeover! I will be forever grateful.
