OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma City Police said a burglar likely suffocated while trying to break into a convenience store near N.E. 23rd Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard.
Police said the owner of Z & Z Convenience Store discovered Thursday morning that his store had been burglarized.
Everett Johnson said he was going to get coffee at the convenience store when he noticed a hole in the back of the building. Johnson said he looked inside the hole and saw someone was still stuck in the space.
"I assumed that maybe they were hiding out waiting for a good time, you know, to sneak back out the hole and go on about their way," Johnson said.
Johnson notified the owner that the burglar may still be hiding out, but upon further investigation, they discovered the burglar was hanging from the ceiling.
"Apparently [the burglar] got caught in a hole trying to burglarize the business and died in the process," said Oklahoma City Police Lt. Jim Miller.
Police said the burglar may have tried to break into the building overnight and had likely been dead for several hours before he was discovered early Thursday morning.
