OKC Family Loses Everything In Early Morning House Fire

OKLAHOMA CITY -- An early morning house fire in the 3300 block of S.W. 27th Street has left an Oklahoma City family homeless.

Single mom and waitress Diane Sloat lived in the home with her three children, 17-year-old Vanessa Moore, 16-year-old Brian Sloat, 12-year-old Sienna Sloat, her 9-month-old grandson, Tavis Garcia and the baby's father, Tereso Garcia. 

The Red Cross arrived to assist the family as well and is putting the family in a hotel for the next three nights.

Moore said the family members lost one of its two dogs, Missy, and all of their belongings.

Firefighters said a space heater caught on fire because it was too close to curtains on the living room window. The fire quickly spread through the small home.

Oklahoma City Fire Chief Chris Jackson said there was no smoke detector in the house, and it's fortunate the family made it out alive.

Diane is the only income-earner for the family.

"We can't get any Christmas. We don't have any money. All we have is what we can get for the house and the things we need, you know," Sloat said.
