MOORE, Oklahoma -- Former Hinton Head Football Coach Jon Freeman was arrested Thursday morning on rape charges.
Moore Police Sgt. Jeremy Lewis said the arrest came after Freeman, 28, was charged with three counts of rape in Pittsburg County.
"This morning we were notified by Pittsburg County that they had a warrant for Mr. Freeman for three counts of rape and one count if sodomy, and that he was residing here in Moore," Lewis said.
An 18-year-old student at McAlester High School in 2008 accused Freeman of rape when he was a coach and teacher there.
The next year Freeman moved on to Southmoore High School, where he was an assistant football coach. Last year he was head coach at Hinton High School. Freeman resigned from his coaching position at Hinton in February after coaching for just one season, citing family concerns.
His resignation came after the OSBI and the District Attorney started investigating a claim of sexual misconduct with a minor. Nothing ever came of that investigation, but the OSBI eventually found another accuser in McAlester.
Freeman was taken to the Moore Police Department where he was booked and formerly charged.
If convicted on the rape charges, Freeman could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison on each count.
