EARLSBORO, Oklahoma -- Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers said a head-on collision on Highway 9 just east of Tecumseh killed three people.
A spokesperson for the OHP said a female driver traveling westbound in an SUV crossed the center line and crashed head-on with a Jeep Cherokee.
The impact caused one car to ignite, killing both people inside. The driver responsible for the crash, 46-year-old Tracy Dawn Craig of Noble, was killed on impact.
The two victims' names have not been released.
"If you want to put it on a scale of 1 to 10, I would say this is a 10. Anytime death is involved is tough, but the mechanics of this is a horrific crash," said OHP Lt. Mark Reynolds.
Lieutenant Reynolds said the driver who caused the crash may have been under the influence of drugs. He said there were several bottles of prescription drugs inside the SUV.
Both lanes of Highway 9 in Earlsboro were closed for more than three hours.
