Dog Involved in High-Speed Chase Sits Behind Bars

OKLAHOMA CITY -- After a woman was arrested and placed behind bars last week for leading authorities on a high-speed chase, her four-legged passenger is now behind pound bars waiting for a new family to take him home.

It was last week when police and troopers chased Jackqulin Jarvis through the metro. After the chase ended and Jarvis was in handcuffs, out jumped a little dog from the car. Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lt. Mark Reynolds said it took everyone by surprise.

"When I made contact with the dog, it was just very, very frightened. So we did our very best to console it until we could get animal control," Reynolds said.

The 1-year-old Brussels Griffon Terrier mix is now a pound puppy.

"It looks like a pretty friendly dog, good natured. Wants to be around people," said Rodney Pesch, Oklahoma City Animal Control.

But for now, he is sitting at the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter waiting to be adopted. A life in a cage, thanks to an owner, placed behind bars.

After bonding out of jail last week, Jarvis had five days to pick up the dog from the shelter, but she never came. That means the dog is now available for adoption.
