OKLAHOMA CITY – Three people were injured in an apartment fire this morning in northwest Oklahoma City.
The four-alarm fire broke out before 5 a.m. at the Whitby Court Apartments, 7408 Knight Lake Drive.
Two people were transported to the hospital with minor injuries, one with a broken leg and another with smoke inhalation and first-degree burns to the hands and face. Another person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, firefighters said.
District Fire Chief Mike Walker said when crews arrived on the scene, there were heavy flames and people were jumping from the windows to escape the fire. Firefighters thought they were going to have to fight the fire defensively.
"Crews got in there and they did an excellent job, getting lines established and getting the fire out," said Chief Walker. "We were prepared to fight this defensively but they were worked their tails off and got this fire out fast."
Thursday's fire was the second fire at the complex in the last two months. Four families were displaced when a fire broke out on Nov. 19.
