Fire Heavily Damages Two Homes in Norman

NORMAN, Oklahoma – A fire has heavily damaged one house and burned at least one other in a subdivision in northwest Norman.

Norman Police Lt. Gary Shelton said a neighbor spotted flames in the Brookhaven subdivision and called 911 about 1:30 p.m. He said high winds fanned the flames, causing the fire to jump to a neighboring home. That house suffered about $100,000 worth of damage but was not a total loss. The house where the fire originated, 3700 Burlington Drive, is being considered a total loss.

No one was home at the time when the fire broke out.

There were no immediate reports of injury in the Friday afternoon blaze, but fire officials said a dog is missing from one of the houses.

Multiple fire crews responded to the blaze.

Fire officials said the house fire caused several other smaller fires in neighboring yards, but those were quickly extinguished.

Northerly winds of 10 to 15 mph with higher gusts hampered firefighters efforts.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
