ADAIR, Oklahoma -- A Seminole man, wanted for allegedly murdering his girlfriend, is behind bars Friday night. Stoney Ward was arrested at the end of a high-speed chase near Adair.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers said the man crashed after speeding 110 miles per hour down the highway. Troopers said the man lost control, hit a guardrail and went into an embankment.
Authorities said Ward also tried to take his own life during the chase.
"The trooper did see the suspect stab himself a couple of times, so we knew the suspect was at least armed with a knife and was dangerous at that time," Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lt. George Brown said.
He was flown by medical helicopter to a Tulsa hospital.
Police said the 28-year-old was wanted for allegedly shooting and killing his girlfriend Thursday night.
Seminole police said officers had responded to a report of a fight at a home Thursday night. Upon arrival, police found a woman dead in the driveway. The suspect, 28-year old Stoney Ward, had reportedly fled the scene.
