EDMOND, Okla. -- Greg Ferguson and Perry Blakey said they were on their way to Ferguson's house for lunch when they became involved in a high-speed chase pursuing two burglary suspects, they said.
Ferguson and Blakey called police when they noticed Ferguson's next-door neighbor's front door was kicked-in and two men were leaving the house in a hurry. Ferguson said the suspects' trunk was open and stuffed with electronic devices.
"My neighbor, he goes to school; he works hard. He's going to be a doctor and for someone to kick in his door when he's at school or at work, that's not right," Ferguson said.
The do-gooders decided to follow the suspects throughout Edmond even when the pursuit became a high-speed chase, they said. Ultimately they chased the suspects onto southbound I-35 until Edmond police caught up to the alleged burglars.
Officer Randy Payne said the suspects pulled over on I-35 near NW 50 St. and started running on the shoulder of the highway. One of the suspects threw something over the bridge and into the river below, Payne said.
Timothy Moreland, 41, Del City, and Kevin Mccuin, 36, Oklahoma City, were arrested each with on complaints on second degree burglary, attempted second degree burglary and receiving stolen property.
Payne said he does not advise witnesses to follow suspects on high-speed chases, but to call the police and write down the license plate number of the vehicle in question. However, Payne did credit the neighbors with the double-arrest.
The chase ended at NW 63 Street and I-35 near Remington Park.
