It was the first day of school for some of Green Country's largest districts, including Tulsa, Broken Arrow and Union.
More than 200 people cheered students at Monroe Demonstration Academy in Tulsa as they walked off the bus and into their new school.
Several members of the group 100 Black Men showed their support. The group mentors at Monroe and said they plan to spend a lot of time at the school.
"We're reaching out to a lot of kids in this community just to let them know you can learn a lot of things from men who care about you," said Keith Miller of 100 Black Men.
"We're standing in the gap on a life lesson basis. Like I said, we all have stories in our lives we can share with people, and there's something you can learn from anyone."
The principal said there's now more than 900 students enrolled at Monroe which is more than triple last year.
