Tulsa Police say a man was found dead at a home near 36th Street North and Hartford. Police say the victim's son is now in custody.
Police say they had to work backward and get help from other departments to solve this murder.
Officers say one of Anthony Russell's children walked in and found him shot to death in his home. Sergeant Shane Tuell says officers were getting started on this shooting investigation when they got a call from law enforcement in Carter County.
"We notice that the dad's truck is missing but we can't find the other son until we get a phone call and get notified by Ardmore that we might have a homicide," said Tuell.
Police say they believe Kevin Russell shot and killed his father over the weekend then drove his truck to Norman, where he was arrested for public intoxication and marijuana possession.
Police also tried to arrest him for an attempted armed robbery but the victim would not cooperate. Kevin's mother bailed him out of jail, then police say she took him to Ardmore for mental help.
That's where officers say Kevin took off, but law enforcement caught up with him. Tuell says it's not clear why Kevin would want to kill his father.
"When they're young and they're little and you take care of them, you never imagine what could happen and you never imagine that something like this could happen," Tuell said.
This is Tulsa's sixth homicide this year.
