The City of Tulsa has a new deputy mayor, and she is calling it her dream job. Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum named Amy Brown as deputy mayor, replacing Michael Junk who is leaving to become Governor-Elect Kevin Stitt's Chief of Staff.
Amy Brown, 30, is Tulsa's newest Deputy Mayor - but just two years ago she had left City Hall to pursue her law degree at The University of Tulsa. Then Mayor G.T. Bynum asked her to come work for him.
"I left the city thinking I was going to do this whole new thing, but that is my dream job and there is no way I could ever turn that down," said new Tulsa Deputy Mayor Amy Brown.
And she has been his Deputy Chief of Staff since ever since.
On Friday, Mayor Bynum asked Brown to be his Deputy Mayor.
"It is an incredible honor and a lot of responsibility," Brown said. "It is a real privilege to have this opportunity as a young Tulsan who will be in Tulsa for many decades to come."
Brown will still continue in a management role, but as deputy mayor, she will have more interaction with the community.
Mayor Bynum's team is made up of a lot of people just like her - as she points out - *young - but many have spent most of their careers in Government.
"We bring with us a lot of on the ground, hands-on experience about what works in local government and what doesn't work," said Tulsa Deputy Mayor Amy Brown.
"For a lot of us, we were able to jump right in and say 'we know how it works - how do we do it better?"
And help build a city she wants people to be proud of.
"Professionally I am really excited about the work but personally I am just really humbled by the opportunity," she said.
Brown will begin her new job on January 14th.
