On Saturday night the city of Tulsa is mourning the loss of longtime City Council chair David Patrick.
Patrick served district three for years and his unexpected death has left members of the Tulsa community heartbroken.
A loving father, a mechanic, a politician. There are so many ways to remember Tulsa city councilor David Patrick, but former city council member Karen Gilbert knew him as "friend."
"He was a father, mechanic, a grandad, a great grandad," said Gilbert
David Patrick died yesterday at the age of 68. He dedicated his life to Tulsa, serving more than two decades as the councilor for district three.
Patrick was an advocate for public safety and served on the Tulsa Authority for the Recovery of Energy. Gilbert got to know Patrick very well having worked alongside him for a number of years.
"He would always find a way to fix things and to make those last forever," said Gilbert.
Patrick was born and raised in Tulsa. He eventually married Danette and they had two children, Crista and Jason. Just this past Wednesday, Patrick awarded his son a 20-year Proclamation for service to the city of Tulsa.
"He wanted to do that. He wanted to make sure that he gave it to him and he did," said Gilbert. Those who knew him are quick to tell you he was full of life.
Mayor G.T. Bynum described him as a loyal friend.
“David Patrick was a good man and a loyal friend. He was loved and admired at every level of the City government. His love for his family was reflected in his service to Tulsa. David’s common sense made him a success in all his entrepreneurial endeavors and helped him resolve so many conflicts at the City. I am thankful for the chance I had to learn from him over a decade working together and am heartbroken he won’t have the long retirement with Dannette that he had earned,” said Mayor Bynum.
Just before last Christmas, as he was serving the community, Patrick had this message to share with everyone.
"I would wish for each and every person to be more generous, more loving, and more kind," said Councilman Patrick
TPD expressed their sympathies to the family as well.
The cause of his death has not been determined. Patrick also leaves behind a wife and two children he was 68-years-old. Funeral arrangements are still being planned.
