The Owasso Rams truly begin their state title defense in Oklahoma on Friday night against one of the toughest teams around.

No longer the hunters, the Owasso Rams are the hunted.

They have yet to play a game against an opponent from the state of Oklahoma, but they can still tell that things are different.

“I think there’s nobody we’re going to sneak up on.  We certainly recognize that,” said Head Coach Bill Blankenship.

“We’re still hungry,” declared quarterback Will Kuehne.  “We’re still fighting for that next gold ball.”

The Rams are coming off a 45 to 31 loss to Blankenship’s former Fayetteville, Arkansas, team.  They say they’ve learned from it and moved on.

“I’m trying to put it past me,” said cornerback Deuce Mayberry.  “I’m trying to work harder and get ready for B.A. and try to take this win.”

The Rams finally get to play an Oklahoma team, but not just any team, the number one ranked Broken Arrow Tigers, who, after two games, might be the most confident team in the state.

“I would not say they’re sneaking up on anybody,” said Blankenship.  “Everybody knows they have 17, 18 starters back.  They’ve got probably the best collection of talent that anybody has in our area.”

The Tigers have won their first two games by a combined score of 61 to 16, but don’t expect the Rams to be intimidated.

“Nobody on the team like B.A.  Everybody loves playing B.A.,” said Kuehne.  “The stands will be packed, the community from both towns, B.A. and Owasso, will be here and representing and it’s going to be an awesome atmosphere to go play in.”

“They’re your friends and you want to beat them because they play on a different team,” said Mayberry.  “It puts a target on their back, makes you just want to go harder.”
