Tulsa's Street School Opens New Building

Tulsa’s Street School is Oklahoma’s most successful dropout prevention and intervention program.

On Wednesday, they opened Street School 2.0 – the first expansion in the school’s 45-year history.

Tulsa Superintendent Dr. Deborah Gist and State Superintendent Joy Hofmeister were on hand for the celebration, along with a lot of other dignitaries.

“We are Oklahoma’s longest running program serving at risk youth,” stated Street School’s Dr. Lori McGinnis-Madland.

The new space is right next door in what used to be the Franklin Academy and the Margaret Hudson Program.  It’s now home to 40 new students, five teachers, two therapists, and a registrar.

Students say they’re excited about it.

There’s a pretty sizable waiting list of people wanting to be at the school.

Street School says it believes there is room in this new building for more than 40 students, but they want to expand slowly to make sure they get it right.
