While players like Baker Mayfield are guaranteed a spot this season, his former sooner teammate and undrafted receiver Jordan Smallwood is battling for a spot on the Kansas City Chiefs.
Jordan Smallwood's dream to play for an NFL team is so close he can taste it.
“For me, I just come out here hungry every day I don't try to say I wanna try to make the team I put that mindset in my head and say hey I'm going to make the team,” said Smallwood.
The Former Jenks and OU wideout went from trying out at the rookie mini-camp to signing with the Kansas City Chiefs.
"You watch them on tv when I was in college I got to see them perform on Sundays and now you can play with them over here on the field and it's just like wow what a blessing,” said Smallwood.
Smallwood welcomed his own miracle last December with the birth of his daughter Londynn. His new role as a father pushes Smallwood to succeed, not just for himself.
“Basically got me focused more, I had a different reason to grind more focused on myself before I had my little one but now my little one is here so my why is different,” said Smallwood.
With his daughter on his heart and reaching the end zone on his mind. Smallwood continues to move up the depth chart in the preseason. Playing every down with a sense of urgency.
“Just knowing that every day could be your last day. Coming back here just made me hungrier, made me more focused and knowing that okay I gotta get my stuff done and compete because at the end of the day this is the NFL,” said Smallwood.
Smallwood hopes to make the 53-man roster for the Kansas City Chiefs so he can have an opportunity to play in arguably the loudest stadium in the NFL,
