The largest wildfire in the state has spread 34,000 acres in just last 24 hours.
According to the Oklahoma Forestry Service, the Rhea Fire in Dewey County has now burned more than 283,095 acres total. With the most of the fire spreading northeast, many areas are still being evacuated and at least 50 homes have been destroyed. The spread of the fire is attributed to the continued dry and windy weather
The Forestry Service says that only three percent of the fire is contained at this point.
Around the towns of Seiling and Vici, fires are ripping through communities and destroying homes.
With a small army of firefighters trying to stop flames, several others worked to protect property.
Firefighters took advantage of a break in the wind and set a woman's field on fire, hoping to eliminate potential fuel for the fire.
Ranchers also used bulldozers to try to create a protective line to save livestock.
