As the walkout rolls on, Tulsa parents are looking for ways to keep their kids busy and burn a little energy during the day.

Parents and grandparents alike are looking for things to do with their little ones, who would usually be in school in the middle of the weekday.

“I’m just ready for school to start again,” parent Lauren Wyrick said. “I wanted to get them out of the house and get some energy out, so that’s why we came here.”

The Children’s Museum Discovery Lab has opened its day camps, which are typically a summer-time even, and has been extremely busy this week.

Executive Director Ray Vandiver said they're prepared to leave the doors open as long as the walkout is going on.

Grandparent Gayle Hunt said, "It's very encouraging to see the museum, the parks, all the institutions around Tulsa that are taking care of the kids. That's very encouraging."

But that doesn't erase the teacher walkout from the mind of Hunt, a retired teacher. Hunt said she's enjoying the unexpected time with her grandkids but is calling out our lawmakers for allowing things to get to this point.

"Oklahoma needs to do better," she said. I think it’s a shame that they had to resort to that. It’s long overdue to take care of the teachers, take care of education, take care of the kids.

But, while the walkout is in process, Vandiver said you can count on the Discovery Lab to keep kids busy.

"Every day is filled with hands-on, fun experiences for the children," he said. "It's part of our mission to provide these educational opportunities, so we're very happy to be in support of education in Tulsa."

The play area will be open every day as usual, but, there's still time to  register your kid for day camps.
