Police confirm a person has died after a car and truck crashed late Monday near 129th East Avenue and 36th Street South.

They say the crash happened at around 10 p.m. December 12 when a Chevy Caprice and pickup collided. Police said the car was speeding down 129th East Avenue when it hit a pickup turning onto the street. Both vehicles rolled over.

Police say five people from both vehicles were taken to the hospital in critical condition. The driver of the car, 20-year-old Eduardo Benitez, later died.

Connie Bartlett used to live around the intersection and still spends time in the area. She said crashes happen all the time on the stretch. She blames it on a retaining wall that makes it hard for drivers to see what's coming.

"Every time I pull from this street, I would hold my breath hoping that no one was speeding and hit me," said Connie Bartlett.

Police said the four people in the truck are expected to be OK.

The crash closed the intersection for over three hours.
