Police say a man reported being attacked by a suspect wearing clown makeup early Thursday.

Officers said the attack happened in the 5100 block of East 77th Street at around 12:30 a.m. when the victim was out walking his dog.  Police say the victim described the suspect as wearing a "painted clown face" and having orange hair.

Neighbors say they are now on high alert

"I don't understand what they're trying to do," said Francisco Moreles.

Moreles works at a nearby apartment complex.  He's heard about the nationwide clown attacks, but now that it's happened on his street, he hopes it doesn't scare his neighbors.

"I hear they're trying to scare the kids and in the schools, especially in the schools," said Francisco Moreles.

Officers say the unidentified victim told them he was hit on the head.  He then ran off.

Police had their helicopter up over the scene as well as officers on the ground looking for the suspect but were unable to locate anyone.

"We want to keep the people here. We are, this is a safe place and we want to keep the people here," said Francisco Moreles.

Police say it is the first clown attack in Tulsa.

Moreles has a message to anyone thinking about dressing up and planning an attack of their own.

"Please, if they want to dress like clowns these days, don't do it," said Francisco Moreles.

Police say the victim was not seriously injured and refused medical treatment.
