A scientific research institute held a grand opening on a brand new research space Thursday.
Laureate Institute for Brain Research, LIBR, focuses on discovering brain-based technologies to improve mental health.
The new facility is designated for use in a groundbreaking, nationwide study.
According to a news release, LIBR is one of 19 U.S. institutions to receive the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development grant.
The study will follow more than 10,000 healthy children for 10 years. The goal is to increase understanding of environmental, social, genetic and other biological factors that affect the brain and how certain factors enhance or disrupt a young person’s life trajectory.
The release says, over the next two years, LIBR will enroll 600 area children in the ABCD study. LIBR has partnered with local schools and organizations to help with recruiting.
