As we’ve been talking about for several days, the WARN Team continues to gear up for a potentially significant day of severe weather on Tuesday.
As we head into Tuesday morning, a few isolated showers or thunderstorms may occur across far northern Oklahoma and southeastern Kansas as a very powerful upper-level storm system rotates across the western United States. We don’t anticipate a severe risk with this early morning activity.

A dryline will establish itself across part of western Oklahoma and southwestern Kansas during the day as warm, moist air continues to rush back into Oklahoma. Locations east of the dryline will become increasingly unstable with time Tuesday afternoon and evening.
As that powerful upper-level storm system begins to shift into the middle of the country, forcing along the dryline will allow thunderstorms to develop Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday evening. Right now, we anticipate the first storms to develop by mid-afternoon near or just west of I-35 in central portions of the state, gradually shifting east into Green Country by late afternoon and particularly by early evening. Thunderstorms may be somewhat scattered in overall coverage, but any storm that develops would be able to produce all modes of severe weather and will have to be taken very seriously. Large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes will all be a possibility Tuesday evening and Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning.

Storms will continue to move eastward toward Arkansas by early Wednesday morning, with additional thunderstorm activity developing Wednesday afternoon primarily east of Highway 69 into the far eastern and southeastern portions of the state. These thunderstorms may also be strong to severe with very large hail and damaging winds the primary threats.
Now would be a good time to review your severe weather safety plan with your family so you can be prepared as severe storms move in on Tuesday! Don’t be scared; be prepared. The WARN Team will be here staying ahead of the storms and keeping you advised!
