As state leaders cut $47 million from the education budget, State Superintendent Joy Hofmeister is figuring out exactly how it will affect classrooms.
On Six in the Morning Monday, Hofmeister said she expected the cuts to come next year. Because of a downturn in oil and gas, state revenues are down, so school districts are being forced to immediately cut their budgets.
Hofmeister says the cuts will affect each district differently.
"Some of them are going to see more severe cuts because they rely more on those state funds than other districts," she said.
"We will expect to see class sizes increasing, especially next year, and the course selection really diminish. Which is just not good for kids."
And there could be another cut coming soon. Hofmeister says we'll know by mid-February exactly how much.
