Skiatook Lake, notoriously known for its low water level, is above normal - and it's actually helping business.
Right now, Skiatook Lake is almost six feet above normal and the folks at CrossTimbers have got their Bobcat in the water because many of their docks are underwater because of the rain. Crews are using the machine to help lift the dock out of the water.
The lake is known for being below normal, and pictures from this time last year really tell that the story.
In December 2014 the lake was 22 feet lower than it is right now; Sea-Doos were on sand, rather than water because the lake was so low.
CrossTimbers Manager Hank Spencer said they lost about ten percent of business because of the low levels. And while he doesn't want it to rise much more, he's OK with the extra water.
“It's kind of amazing to see the difference from where we were at last year. I never realized it looked that bad until you see them side-by-side. It's a big difference,” he said.
Spencer said he would much rather the marina be underwater than low like it was this time last year.
He said he doesn't expect the water rise much more and he thinks it will likely start dropping within a week or two.
