TONIGHT’S MATCHUP Tulsa will face the Utah Grizzlies for the first time in franchise history. Utah travels to Tulsa for the first of six meetings throughout the season—three in Tulsa and three taking place at the Maverick Center in West Valley, Utah. The Oilers come off of a two-game losing streak after being defeated by the Rapid City Rush last night 4-2.
HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS December kicks off with seven straight home games for the Oilers. The Oilers will remain in the BOK Center until December 21st when they travel to Allen. Along with Rapid City tonight, Tulsa will host the Utah Grizzlies, Idaho Steelheads, Missouri Mavericks and Wichita Thunder during that period.
ROLLING OUT THE WELCOME “MAT"T Last week, the Oilers acquired goaltender Matt Grogan and defenseman Mathieu Brisebois. Grogan joins the Oilers after his start in the SPHL with the Mississippi RiverKings where helped his team gain four wins in his four games played. Brisebois, a 23 year-old Quebec native, has suited up for all four contests and has recorded 2 assists in Tulsa.
GLOVES DROPPED There have been 20 fights in the 18 Oilers games this season—averaging the boys in blue to more than one fight per game. Six of those games have been multi-fight contests. One of the six happened to be this past weekend in Wichita where the Oilers racked up 20 penalty minutes in fighting majors—32 total. Last night Tulsa recorded their quickest fight time of the season when Mathieu Gagnon and Rapid City’s Jimmy Bonneau went head-to-head before the clock began at the start of the first period. ?
‘WON’ WIN AWAY Oilers’ Head Coach Jason Christie is only one victory away from tying the record of all-time ECHL wins by a head coach. Christie enters the week with 490 wins under his belt in the span of 13 ECHL seasons. With his time split between Peoria, Utah, Ontario and Tulsa, Christie has coached 880 games and is only two wins away from breaking the record.
CARRIED BY CARR Kevin Carr has started between the pipes the last six games since Jussi Olkinuora’s call-up to the Manitoba Moose. The six-foot-one Ontario native now ranks fifth amongst goaltenders in the ECHL with a 1.84 goals against average.
OIL DROPS Since being acquired in a trade from Greenville, Emerson Clark has six points in seven games with the Oilers (4 goals, 2 assists)… If Head Coach Jason Christie wins tonight he will tie the ECHL record against one of his former teams (Utah)… 100’s: Defenseman Matt Konan will play in his 100th professional game tonight, Adam Pleskach played in his 100th ECHL game last night as well as Mathieu Gagnon who participated in his 100th professional game.
