Hunters Rescued From Capsized Boat On Oologah Lake

Several agencies worked together to rescue two duck hunters whose boat capsized on Oologah Lake Friday morning.

According to the Rogers County Sheriff's Office, the Rogers County 911 center received the first call at about 11 a.m., but the hunters' phone went dead. Dispatchers pinged the cell phone and gave their location to the sheriff's office. 

Rogers County Sheriff's Office Major Coy Jenkins spotted the boat from the shore and called the Northwest Rogers County Fire Department which had launched a boat to find the men. 

As the Northwest Fire crew moved toward the capsized boat, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol airplane spotted it, as did the crew in the Grand River Dam Authority helicopter. The Northwest Fire crew pulled the two hunters and their dog into its rescue boat and brought them to shore.

The men said they were duck hunting when waves swamped the boat. They were cold but otherwise unhurt.

The rescue also included Talala Police, Oologah-Talala Emergency Management and some game wardens, too.
