A police chase that began in Glenpool ended southwest of Kiefer with an officer firing shots at the suspect, identified as James Michael Hoover.

The Glenpool Police Department said the chase began when an officer attempted to stop a suspicious pickup. The truck took off westbound on 161st Street South.

"The vehicle was pulled off to the side of the road, and when my officer turned around to investigation - as he approached the vehicle, they took off," said Glenpool Deputy Chief of Police Bart Harris.

Police say the chase ended at a home near 161st Street South and Main Street south of Sapulpa.

When the chase ended, Harris said Hoover got out of his truck, ran into a home and got a gun.

"The officer told him to drop the weapon," Harris said. "The suspect didn't comply, he continued to approach the officer. The officer fired two shots at which point the suspect surrendered - dropped the gun."

Harris said neither the officer nor the driver was not injured.

Police say Hoover is a relative of the homeowner. Officers took him back to Glenpool to be questioned before they take him to the Tulsa County jail.

They also said drugs were found on Hoover when he was arrested.

Deputy Chief of Police Harris said the officer showed tremendous restraint by giving multiple commands to put the gun down before shooting at Hoover.

"He's got a lot of years of experience; he did an extremely good job," Harris said.

Court records show Hoover pleaded guilty in 2012 to complaints of driving under the influence of drugs and driving with revoked or suspended license.

He was also ticketed in February for driving with a suspended or revoked license, and has a warrant in Tulsa for a traffic accident that took place in 2012.

Hoover was booked into Tulsa County Jail on complaints of pointing a firearm with intent, eluding, possession of a controlled drug, possession of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of drug paraphernalia and littering.
