The Tulsa Fire Department made history Friday, announcing its first female district chief.

Captain Greta Hurt was promoted during a badge ceremony Friday afternoon.

The 17-year veteran fire investigator said she never planned on rising in the TFD ranks like she has, but she's honored to inspire others through her new role.

"One of these days it's not going to be a big thing to be a girl firefighter or a woman firefighter. But I do love being in that position of, hopefully, letting some little girl or some little boy see that this is a career that they can do," she said.

A total of three district chiefs and five staff officers received new badges at the ceremony.
