The Oklahoma Highway Patrol confirms there has been a plane crash near Lake Tenkiller.

The crash was about a mile north of Cookson Airport, which is a small, private airport east of state Highway 82.

People who lease land about a quarter of a mile north of Cookson Bend Road said they witnessed the plane flying low to the ground and then saw it crash. They were the first to respond, and said they found two older men -- one was alert and awake, and the other was able to speak.

The witnesses told News On 6 that the men were transported to a hospital by medical helicopter.

According to OHP, the men are both in critical condition but have been stabilized.

The crash took place Saturday morning after 11 a.m.

The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.

According to FAA records, the plane's N number belongs to a 1946 fixed-wing single-engine Ercoupe 415-C, which is registered to Albert Demarco of Ozark, Arkansas. There is no confirmation if he was one of the men on board.
