The Northeastern State University Police Department in Tahlequah received a 911 call at approximately 4:15 p.m. Sunday reporting a man's body inside a vehicle parked near the football stadium, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

First responders arrived and found the man dead.

The OSBI Monday identified the man as Anthony George Scott, 48, of Tahlequah.

The NSU students we talked to were shocked.

"It's crazy. I would have never expected that to happen here," said Dallas Adams.

Campus police called in the OSBI to handle the case. A state medical examiner autopsy will determine the cause of death.

Karen Meigs lives just a block from where Scott was found.

"It's scary. You know, there's a lot of kids around here, you never know what's going to happen," Meigs said.

OSBI is investigating the death as suspicious.

Meigs said it's unnerving, hearing the body was found nearby, especially since NSU professor Tiffany Maher was found murdered in her home near campus just a few months ago, though there's not indication that the two deaths are related.

"It makes me sad. It makes me scared really. I just live right over there. And the murder with Dr. Maher happened right over there, then this one right down the street, and I'm right in the middle, so that scares me," Meigs said.

NSU emailed students and faculty to inform them about the discovery on Sunday of the body on campus, and that an investigation is underway.

A university spokesperson said Scott wasn't an NSU student.

The OSBI said there will also be toxicology tests run on Scott, and it may take several weeks to get those results.
