Investigators have arrested a 14-year-old in connection with the murder of a woman found shot in her parents' Jenks home Monday night.

Joshua Scott Mooney, 14, was arrested Tuesday night. Investigators said he confessed to the murder and said he acted alone.

The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office said it classified the crimes in this case as first-degree burglary and homicide.

Police said 47-year-old Mary Escue was from Nevada and has children who live in this area. She was in Jenks to attend the graduation of her daughter's friend.

Her camera bag, wallet and car stolen from the scene were found Tuesday afternoon, and that was just the break detectives needed.

Investigators said Escue was staying with her parents at their home in Jenks in the 400 block of East 111th Street.

They said her parents had gone out for the evening, and when they returned, they found their daughter dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

Jenks police called in the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office for assistance.

"The sheriff's office will traditionally send not just one investigator, but a team of investigators that are highly trained in this type investigation," TCSO Maj. Shannon Clark said.

Investigators said it appeared at first glance that robbery was the motive, but things at the scene didn't add up.

Escue's car was taken, but many items of value in plain sight -- televisions, rifles, etc. -- were left behind.

A small window was broken, but the family said they never locked their doors, so someone could've walked inside.

"This is a community where there's very little crime, well-to-do neighborhood, good family, no enemies, don't do anything to draw suspicion of law enforcement—pretty rare. Jenks hasn't had a homicide in years. [It's] just not common in this community," Clark said.

Escue's camera bag and wallet were taken and were later tossed into a yard in Sapulpa and someone reported seeing three people, including the 14-year-old, in the stolen 2009 Malibu. Those three people were taken into custody.

After questioning the suspects, investigators arrested Mooney.

Police said Jenks hasn't had a murder since 2008. That was a child abuse case.

They said before that, they'd have to go back to the ‘90s, when there was a suspected homicide of a young girl, but no charges were ever filed.
