Tulsa's vacant Owen Park Recreation Center is the future location of a children's museum/discovery center.
Friday, Tulsa Children's Museum announced it has an agreement with the City of Tulsa for three-year lease of the center located at 560 North Maybelle.
"Tulsa is one of only two of the largest 100 metros in the nation that does not have a children's museum or discovery center and I am proud that we can help TCM in their efforts to bring this family-friendly amenity to our community," says Blake Ewing, Tulsa City Councilor, District 4.
"This is a win-win situation for TCM, the City of Tulsa, and area families. Owen Park is a beautiful park set in a historic district and an incredible backdrop for TCM. The Museum will make over $250,000 in capital improvements to the center and leave it in better condition than it is today."
According to a news release, 8,000 square feet of the center will be turned into exhibit space.
The Discovery Lab is scheduled to open in late spring 2013.
The Tulsa Children's Museum will be holding a block party on Sunday, November 4th at Owen Park to give the public a sneak peak of what will be offered at the Discovery Lab
