Behind excellent pitching and a balanced offensive showing, the Tulsa Drillers handled the Springfield Cardinals 7-0 on Tuesday.
The Tulsa pitching staff gave up no runs and just four hits with eight strikeouts in the victory. Tulsa starter Josh Outman picked up his first win of the year (1-1) after giving up two hits and striking out four Cardinals in six innings.
The scoring didn't get started until the fourth inning when Kent Matthes homered over the left field wall for a 1-0 lead. The Drillers scored four in the sixth to widen the spread, including back-to-back RBI doubles by Tim Torres and Lars Davis.
After one run in the fifth off a Jimmy Cesario sacrifice fly, Cesario capped off the scoring in the seventh with a two-run homer to make it 7-0.
The two teams will face off again on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at ONEOK Field in Tulsa.
