Authorities on Wednesday identified a man who was shot and killed by Tulsa Police as he was attacking a senior citizen in her home Tuesday night.

The attacker was 25-year-old ex-con Phillip Steven Doll, police said.

Doll was listed earlier on Tuesday evening as a person of interest in the death of Natalie Davis, his 22-year-old live-in girlfriend. Davis was found shot in the head in the couple's 79th and Yale apartment on Tuesday.

Although Doll was the focus of the investigation in the Davis murder, the case is still open.

Police don't know why he was in the 36th and Riverside neighborhood Tuesday night trying doorknobs. They just know when he finally got into a house and his intentions were not good.

"I hear somebody jiggle my… try to open my storm door," said Melissa, who live nearby.

Melissa was in her rocker putting her baby to sleep, when someone tried to get in her door Tuesday night. She didn't get up for fear of waking him.

"I heard it again and its 7 p.m., so I figured it's the UPS guy or somebody leaving an ad on my door," she explained.

Police believe it was Doll. Other neighbors reported him trying to get in their houses too. Shortly afterward, police got a call that he'd gotten into the home of a 65-year-old woman on the same street.

Her grandson called 911 and officers got there quickly.

"As they enter the residence, they immediately heard screams of a female asking for help," said Tulsa Police Detective Vic Regalado.

Police don't believe Doll knew the victim or her grandson. When they arrived, he was on top of the victim and they say he refused to follow any of their commands. She told police he had threatened to kill her.

"At that point, they were left with no choice but to go in an save her life and they did," Detective Regalado said.

"Here's another case of first-degree burglary that individuals are deciding to go inside residences," said Tulsa Police Officer Leland Ashley said, referring to the deadly home invasion of elderly couple in north Tulsa last week.

Officers shot and killed Doll. Detectives then realized he was the man they'd been searching for in the death of Natalie Davis.

Officers would like to know who owns a Mercury Milan. They'd also like to learn more about his whereabouts the last two days.

"Anybody who recognized him, friends he showed up asking for anything. They're not in trouble, it's simply to help us close this case out," Regalado said.

Records show Doll has previous convictions for stolen vehicle, assaulting a police officer and having a gun as a former felon.

As for Melissa, she believes God was watching over her and still shocked all this happened so close to home.

"You think nobody is going to try to rob your house at seven o'clock at night," she said.

The victim told detectives she was very grateful for the officers. Officer JC Comstock is on routine leave pending the criminal and internal investigations of the shooting.
