Deputy Chief Joe Crittenden was sworn in Sunday, officially taking over the reigns of the Cherokee Nation -- at least for now.

TAHLEQUAH, Oklahoma -- Deputy Chief Joe Crittenden was sworn in Sunday, officially taking over the reigns of the Cherokee Nation -- at least for now.

Crittenden will serve at the interim Chief while voters wait to for the September election.

Principal Chief Chad Smith and challenger Bill John Baker have undergone two recounts in their efforts to lead the nation.

However, the Cherokee Supreme Court threw out the results - saying it was impossible to tell who actually won.

The special election is set to be held on the twenty-forth of September.
