WAGONER, Oklahoma -- On a hot day, there's nothing like a snow cone. There are dozens of flavors, all of them icy cold.
There's a stand in Wagoner that boasts the fastest crew in Oklahoma.
Chill Out has a prime spot right on Highway 51 in Wagoner. Randi Charboneau and her husband are co-owners. She says never too hot for snow cones.
She says when the city was out of water recently the stand stayed open. They bought ice and bottled water.
The reason we showed up is her staff.
"You gotta get the wrist motion down," said Tori Coal. Coal and Kevin Peterson are maybe the fastest snow cone makers in the state. Their medals show that they're fast on their feet too.
"He's the fastest boy; I'm the fastest girl, but I think I'm the fastest," Tori Coal said.
Competitive, too - sounds like.
Chill Out has 44 flavors and endless combinations. Try strawberry, kiwi and watermelon like one customer who stops in every week.
She says it's her once a week treat.
Randi says they have pineapple and banana. It's called yellow snow.
Rick Wells, News On 6: "You're not supposed to eat the yellow snow."
Randi Charboneau of Chill Out: "It's good here."
They made me something called frog in a blender: sour apple and cherry. Not bad.
We timed Tori and Kevin – each one making a small strawberry. Kevin struggled a bit and finished in 1:14. Tori breezed through with less than 55 seconds.
She won bragging rights.
Brain freeze! That tongue in the roof of your mouth thing doesn't work.
Chill Out is on Cherokee Street in Wagoner. They're open every day until 10 p.m.
