Expansion Plans Announced For Cherokee Nation's Ramona Casino

The Cherokee Nation broke ground Thursday over an expansion project that will triple the size of it Ramona casino.

RAMONA, Oklahoma -- The Cherokee Nation broke ground Thursday over an expansion project that will triple the size of it Ramona casino.

Principal Chief Chad Smith and Cherokee Nation Entertainment Chief Executive Officer David Stewart were on hand for the event.

The casino will expand from its current 11,500 square foot modular structure to a 31,000 square foot permanent structure.

The new casino, which will include 500 electronic games, is expected to open in 2012.

Cherokee Nation Entertainment is the wholly owned gaming, hospitality, retail and tourism entity of the Cherokee Nation.
