SAPULPA, Oklahoma -- A passerby on the Turner Turnpike called in a Sapulpa house fire overnight Sunday. The driver reported seeing flames on the north side of the highway about a quarter mile west of U.S. Highway 97, and firefighters were able to quickly locate the house due to their knowledge of the area.
There was a bit of a delay getting to the home because of a locked gate, however. The house was fully involved with fire when Sapulpa firefighters arrived at about 3:30 a.m.
Assistant Chief David Taylor said it appeared that the house was unoccupied and may have been in the remodeling process. Several inside walls did not have sheet rock.
Crews had to shuttle water in from the closest fire hydrant which was several blocks away, Taylor said.
There were no injuries.
