TULSA, Oklahoma -- The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals set an execution date on Wednesday for Tulsa County death row inmate Billy Don Alverson. Alverson will be put to death January 6, 2011.
Attorney General Drew Edmonson's office requested the execution date on November 1 after the U.S. Supreme Court denied Alverson's final appeal.

Alverson was convicted and sentenced to death for the February 26, 1995, murder of 30-year-old Richard Kevin Yost during a robbery of the Quik Trip, 215 N. Garnett Street, in Tulsa. Yost was the store's night clerk.
One other Oklahoma inmate is scheduled to be executed. Pittsburg County death row inmate John David Duty is scheduled to be executed December 16. He was convicted of the December 2001 murder of his cell mate, Curtis Wise, 22. Duty was serving two concurrent life sentences for 1978 Tillman County convictions of rape and shooting with intent to kill and one life sentence for a 1978 Jackson County robbery conviction at the time of the murder.
