TULSA, Oklahoma -- The position of Tulsa Chief of Police is now open to external applicants, Mayor Dewey Bartlett announced Friday.
The position will be posted for one week.
The decision was made after two internal applicants were interviewed earlier this week.
"Both applicants shared some good ideas during the interview. I appreciate their ambition and desire to serve Tulsa," Bartlett said.
Interviews were conducted by a panel that includes Bartlett, Tulsa Crime Commission Executive Director Carol Bush; the Reverend Weldon Tisdale, community leader; Personnel Director Erica Felix-Warwick and Mike Bunney, Bartlett's director of economic development.
The same panel will interview any external candidates.
The job is currently being filled by Interim Chief Chuck Jordan.
