OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs is holding an event this week to promote prescription drug awareness.

The public will be asked to participate in the "Take-Back" prescription drug program on April 15 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at various locations across the state.

The public will get an opportunity to safely dispose of expired prescription drugs no questions asked.

"Prescription drug abuse is a growing epidemic in Oklahoma," said Mark Woodward, OBN Spokesman. "It's unnecessary and unsafe to leave outdated drugs in the house. Old, expired medications left in the home can be targeted by users. Teenagers also target their parent's current or expired prescription drugs to abuse, trade or sell in order to obtain alcohol, marijuana or other drugs."

No syringes, liquids or inhalers are allowed.

"All citizens have the opportunity to get involved in the statewide prescription take-back program and by doing so will make their homes safer," said Darrell Weaver, OBN Director. "It's a simple concept but we will reap tremendous dividends by all Oklahoman's participation and properly dispose of unwanted prescription drugs. As the Chief Drug Enforcement officer of our state I encourage all of Oklahoma to be involved in this endeavor".
