Ceremony Held For Judge At OKC Federal Courthouse

OKLAHOMA CITY -- An investiture ceremony has been held for the first black chief U.S. district judge for Oklahoma's western federal court district.

Vicki Miles-LaGrange was honored before about 100 people during the ceremony on Friday. She officially assumed the position in January for a term of seven years.

Then-President Bill Clinton appointed Miles-LaGrange to the federal bench in 1994, making her the first black federal judge in the six-state district of the 10th U.S. Circuit of Appeals.

Miles-LaGrange said during the ceremony that the message of equal justice for all who approach the federal bench should continue to resonate. She says she is humbled by serving in her new post.
