OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma Republicans will elect two state senators in Tuesday's primary runoff elections in what they view as a step toward taking control of the 48-member chamber for the first time ever.

It's a meager runoff ballot, and voters in most counties will have no reason to go to the polls.

There are five legislative runoffs, including key GOP Senate battles to replace term-limited Republican Sen. James Williamson of Tulsa and Kathleen Wilcoxson of south Oklahoma City.

The winners of those races will be elected since no Democrats filed in the Republican-leaning districts.

Democratic officials have said they will hold their ground in the Senate, and pick up seats in the 101-member House, where Republicans now hold a 57-44 edge.
