(Oklahoma City-AP) -- The state Supreme Court is overturning the city of Seminole's annexation of a 9-mile strip of land.
Seminole officials annexed a 3-foot-wide strip on each side of State Highway 99 in 1999 to take in six businesses near Interstate 40. The city then required the businesses to collect the city's four-and-a-half percent sales tax.
But the state court says the city must show the 3-foot-wide strip is beneficial beyond just linking the city to land it wants to annex.
Seminole City Manager Steve Saxon says the city council hasn't decided whether to ask the court for a rehearing.
