(Canton, Ohio-AP) -- Former Oklahoma State Heisman Trophy winner Barry Sanders is one of 67 nominees to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Sanders won the Heisman in 1988 after rushing for 2,028-yards and 37 touchdowns and setting 34 NCAA records. He played ten years in the NFL with the Detroit Lions, retiring in 1998.

This is his first year of eligibility for election into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Other nominees include former Denver quarterback John Elway and coaches Jimmy Johnson, Chuck Knox and Don Coryell and NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue.

The inductees will be announced the day before next January's Super Bowl in Houston.
