An Oklahoma soldier was honored for his valor during the war in Iraq. Corporal John Ator the 2nd of Collinsville was among eight soldiers who received the Purple Heart this week at Fort Riley in Kansas.
Ator was driving a Bradley fighting vehicle in April when it was hit by two rocket-propelled grenades.
Despite his injuries, he helped get six fellow soldiers to safety.
