The traditional sound of bagpipes helped usher in a new team of Tulsa firefighters. 18 Tulsa Fire Academy students are ready for work.

Tulsa Mayor Bill LaFortune handed out their badges and emphasized the importance of family. "And you earn that. That's something you earn, and now you're entering a whole new family. You're entering the family of the Tulsa Firefighters and the Tulsa Fire Department, and what a wonderful family."

There has been speculation that budget shortfalls would put future academy classes on hold, but, we haven't heard from the mayor's office about when or if that might happen.
