(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Two state lawmakers have filed bills to slow down a plan to pump water from southern Oklahoma to central Oklahoma.

Oklahoma City-based PESA LLC plans to pump up to 20 million gallons of water a day from the Arbuckle-Simpson Aquifer to Canadian County.

A bill by Representative Danny Hilliard would limit the amount of water that could be taken from one area of the state for use in another area.

A separate bill by Representative Paul Roan would prevent the state Water Resources Board from issuing temporary water use permits until new rules protecting groundwater quality are developed.

An attorney for PESA says the bills would take away the property rights of landowners.
