(Denver-AP) -- Tulsa is tabbed to come in third this season in the Western Athletic Conference basketball race.

TU picked up one of 13 first-place votes in balloting announced Tuesday. Fresno State was selected to win the conference title and Hawaii was picked to come in second.

Tulsa's Kevin Johnson was selected for the Preseason All-WAC Team, along with Melvin Ely and Chris Jeffries of Fresno State, Damon Hancock of SMU and Predrag Savovic of Hawaii.

Ely also was picked as the preseason player of the year and San Jose State's Carlton Baker was selected as the preseason newcomer of the year.
